The Cold Weather Shelter is wrapping up our seventh season. In partnership with South Congregational Church, and thanks to the help of about 200 dedicated volunteers, we have provided shelter during December 2009 and January through March of 2010 to over 100 individuals!
We’ve sheltered people as young as 18 and as old as 65. We’ve helped a few of our guests find work and housing, and helped a few of our guests receive treatment for illnesses, including substance use disorders. Our practice of “Safety, Hospitality, and Respect” continues to guide our work and make it easy for people who may be distrustful of ‘official’ programs to come in when the weather could be deadly.
We are about to receive the “Heroes” award from the Granite Chapter of the American Red Cross for our service to people who are experiencing homelessness. We’ll accept this recognition at a breakfast ceremony on March 24.
Our Cold Weather Shelter officially closed on Monday morning, March 22. On Sunday evening, March 21, beginning at 5:30, we will hosted a dinner for shelter guests, current and former, as well as volunteers.
Thanks to the whole community for a great season of hospitality to our neighbors!
For more information about the shelter, contact our shelter director, Sarah Greene, by calling 225-5491 and leaving a message with the Administrative Assistant.

The shelter program accepts donations of money, gloves, hats, personal care products, and coffee. Please don’t donate clothing or food; there are a number of other programs providing clothing and food to people who are homeless.
