Emergency Assistance Network

Government poverty programs undergo change, as do the needs of those turning to them for assistance.  One result has been an increase in requests to local faith communities for help.  These requests are sometimes small, involving money gas or laundry.  Other requests - emergency rental assistance, for example can be substantial.

The Emergency Assistance Network (Concord, NH) is a product of several years' effort by the Greater Concord Interfaith Council.  It currently is a consortium of eleven churches that meet regularly and pool together their church's emergency assistance funds to serve the needs of individuals whose requests for aid, while falling within statutory obligations, have been denied by state and/or local public assistance.  This ability to work in partnership with churches have given service providers the ability to pool resources with other faith communities, respond to applicants' requests for aid more quickly and avert crisis situations.

The EAN Partner Faith Communities are:

Bow Mills Methodist Church, Bow Mills

Concordia Lutheran Church, Concord

East Congregational Church, Concord

First Congregational Church, Concord

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Concord

South Congregational Church, Concord

Temple Beth Jacob, Concord

Wesley United Methodist Church, Concord

St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Concord

The EAN partners also work in partnership with social service agencies as well as city and state welfare offices around the state to connect families with distress with local and government-sponsored sources of assistance.
