Minutes of the Goals Task Force

Sunday, May 25, 2008

The Task Force met on Sunday, May 25, 2008, following worship.  Pastor Jean O’Bresky, Joann Martin, and Donna Muir were in attendance.

The group had discussed the goals that were presented at the annual meeting and of the discussions at the May 14 Cabinet meeting.  The outline of those discussions is listed below:

  •      Goals should be focused on what we have – our spiritual gift
  •      Goals should be focused what the church’s mission is - why we exist - spreading the good news
  •       We need to be celebrating what we’ve done through the many programs offered
  •       Cabinet should be the visioning body of the church - it is understood that it is necessary for Cabinet to oversee what’s being done and how, the main focus is to drive the creativity of the congregation
  •        The members of the church need to enter into a behavioral covenant - open and honest communication with each other - agreeing to treat each other, even during the most difficult conversations with respect and dignity

The overall goal for the church for the coming year should be to discern and celebrate our spiritual gifts as a community.  We need to evaluate what we are doing, how well we are doing these things, what we want to achieve, what we want to preserve, and what we feel we should avoid.  The Task Group felt it would be appropriate to do a spiritual gifts inventory and use this information to celebrate ourselves and our successes.  Each board or committee would be involved in the year-long evaluation process, which we envision to be ongoing conversations among the board/committee members, the individuals they serve, and the staff.

This information was provided to the congregation at the Quarterly Meeting, set for Wednesday, May 28.

                                                                                    Respectfully submitted,

                                                                                    Donna Muir, Clerk
